Farangi Mahal is located between Victoria Road and Chowk in Lucknow. This grand monument building is named after the fact that this palace occupied by Europeans, who called Farangi, and for this reason, it is known as Farangi Mahal.
It was associated with Neil, a French merchant who lived here with another French entrepreneur during the reign of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. This royal residence was first under foreigners, later became subordinated to the government.
Then it was transferred to the place of Islamic Affairs of Emperor Mullah Asad bin Qutb Shaheed and his brother Mulla Asad bin Qutb Uddin Shaheed. The two brothers converted the house into a grand Islamic institution.
Their sculptures compared to Cambridge and Oxford University in England.
Mahatma Gandhi also spent some of his time in Farangi Mahal, the room in which he stayed is decorated with memories associated with him.
The Farangi Mahal has made an unprecedented contribution to the preservation of Islamic culture and tradition.
