The Rumi Darwaza is also known as the Turkish gateway, named after the great 13th century Sufi fakir, Jalal-ad-Din Muhammad Rumi. This 60 feet high door was built in 1784 by Nawab Asaf Udala Daula. This gate is a unique piece of Awadhi style and is known as the gateway to the city of Lucknow. Above this gate, a lamp placed in the era of the Nawabs, which provided light in the dark of night in that era. This place becomes even more breathtaking when the waterfalls in the shape of a bud from the beautiful fountains located near the arches at this gate. The Rumi Darwaza appears as a door to Constantinople. When Rumi Darwaza built, there was a famine in Awadh, so that people could get employment, Asaf-Daula had made a detailed plan of these buildings.
