The Safed Baradari is a white marble palace situated in the Kaiserbagh area of Lucknow. It was built by the then Nawab of Awadh, Wajid Ali Shah, in 1845 as the Palace of Matampursi and named it qasr-ul-Aza.
It was done for Imam Hussain in the form of Imambara for Azadari mourning. According to some other sources, it was started by the Nawab in 1848 which was completed in 1850.
According to them, it was done for the women living in the harem of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. The complex of the Baradari is surrounded by gardens, fountains, mosques, palaces, harem, and courtyards.
White Baradari means the twelve-door Palace of the White color. Currently, this building is used for wedding receptions and dinner parties.
