Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the Koodal Azhagar Temple is a renowned Hindu temple in Madurai. Lord Vishnu and his consort Goddess Lakshmi are worshiped in the temple. The temple was originally built under the rule of Pandyas and further modifications were made by the clans like Nayak and Rai. This shrine welcomes countless devotees throughout the year. The sanctum of this temple houses a beautiful idol of Lord Vishnu with four arms. The shrine of Vishnus consort, Goddess Lakshmi, located in the southern direction of Koodal Azhagar Temple. The beautifully carved windows of this shrine were decorated with the paints made from medicinal herbs. It is best known for its elegance and is one of the 108 Divyadesams in India. It is situated near the Meenakshi Amman Temple. In 2.5 acres of area, 6 pujas are performed here.
