Dakhinpat Satra is a famous social institution of Majuli. It was founded in 1584 by a follower of Vanshigopal. It is an important center of art and culture and exhibits various sculptures, paintings, and dances.
Earlier it was under the patronage of the kings of the Satra Ahom dynasty. It is also called the House of Dance, as Sri Sankardeva has contributed to a variety of dance forms.
The gate of Satra is decorated with religious motifs and pictures of flowers and animals.
The state festival of Assam, known as Rasleela, is also celebrated here every year. It is the main festival of Assam. During this period, thousands of devotees visit here.
The Mahantas residing here is known as Bhakta, and currently, there are 90 to 100 devotees here. The relics and manuscripts of Saint Srimanta Sankardev have been preserved by Satrabhari.
These Satras follow the Mahapurujia religion, and Mahaprabhu Jadvaro worshiped here.
By bus you can reach Dakhinpat Satra within 1 hour from Kamlabari Satra. You can also reach there by ferry from Nimati Ghat.
