Kamalabari Satra is located in Majuli Tehsil of Jorhat district in Assam. In Assamese, Kamala means orange, and Bari means garden. Kamalabari Satra was founded in 1595 by a follower of Madhavdev.
Kamalabadi Satra has been known as a center of art, culture, and literature for centuries. It was from here that the Sattriya dance gained fame and was later given the status of classical dance.
Every year during the monsoon time, Satra suffers a lot of damage and a large part of it has destroyed by the ever-coming floods in Majuli. Kamalabadi Satra is also famous for making mythological statue.
The best time to visit Kamlabari Satra is from October to March. To reach Satra, tourists have to take a boat from the Nimati Ghat of Jorhat.
