Janmashtami is celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Hindus. Shri Krishna was born on the eighth day of Krishna Paksha in Bhadrapada month. According to astrological calculations, the 5247th birth anniversary of Lord Krishna will be celebrated this year.
According to Vedas and Puranas, scriptures, Lord Krishna was born in Dwapara Yuga.
At that time, there was a king named Kansa in Mathura in the Dwapara era, whose cousin was Devaki. Kansa loved her very much. But when his sister got married, he came to know through a prophecy that he would be slaughtered by Devaki's eighth-born son. So Kansa got angry on hearing this and he lifted the sword to kill his sister.
To save Devaki, her husband Vasudeva pledged Kansa to hand over all his eight children to him. On being assured by Vasudev, Kansa put both of them into his dungeon, and one after the other he killed all the seven children of Devaki.
When Lord Krishna was born, all the intentions of Kansa were flooded. One to one miracles happened at the time of Lord Krishna's birth, the doors of the Dungeon opened automatically, due to which Vasudeva was able to bring his son Krishna to a safe place and brought a divine girl in place of Krishna and handed it over to Kansa when Kansa tried to end the female daughter, she reached into the sky and said that "Ray Murkha Tera Kaal Vrindavan Poch Chuka Hai, Jo Jaldi Hi Tera Ant Karega" after Hearing this, Kansa got shocked and sent many demons to kill Krishna, but they all got failed.
Lord Krishna was born at midnight, due to which people do pooja at midnight on the day of Janmashtami. On the day of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, people fast and worship Lord Krishna to get children, longevity, and prosperity. On this day, it has been a tradition of swinging Bal Gopal, it is said that if a person swings the God in a cradle then all his wishes are fulfilled. In 2021 this holy festival will be celebrated on 30 August at all places, and the Dahi Handi event will be celebrated on 31 August.
