Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum is one of the oldest museums in Mumbai. In the beginning, it was established in 1855 as a treasure house of the decorative and industrial arts, but after sometimes it was opened for public as a museum in 1872 and named Victoria and Albert Museum, but again its name was changed in 1975. Currently, the Museum is situated in the Byculla neighborhood in South Mumbai, showcases the most prominent collections of dioramas, clay models, lithographs, photographs, and books that feature the old lifestyle of Bombay City from the late eighteenth to the early twentieth century. The architecture of the museum is designed in 6 different parts - Origins of Mumbai, Industrial Arts, Century Paintings, Founder's Gallery, Kamalnayan Bajaj Mumbai Gallery, and Kamalnayan Special Exhibitions Gallery. The museum is also famous for organizing various workshops, exhibitions and promotes the contemporary art and culture of Bombay. The Museum runs through public and private funding and has won many awards for Excellence in Cultural Conservation.
