Gateway of India is one of the top valued monuments of India located in the waterfront of the Apollo Bunder area at the end of Chhatrapati Shivaji Marg in South Mumbai. This is the city's top tourist attraction and also been referred to as "The Taj Mahal of Mumbai'. This monument served as an entrance point to India for the British Viceroys, it was built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to India. This place is nearby the famous Elephanta caves. The gateway is also a gathering spot for locals, street vendors, and photographers soliciting services. It holds significance for the local Jewish community as it has been the spot for Hanukkah celebrations, with the lighting of the menorah, since 2003. There are five jetties located at the gateway, of which two are used for commercial ferry operations.
