Kanheri Caves is a group of historic Rock Caves and Rock Cut Monuments Kanheri Caves is a group of historic Rock Caves and Rock Cut Monuments in the form of caves. The caves represent the Indian culture and art of historic Hindu and Buddhism culture through outstanding carvings, paintings, and inscription, made in between the 1st century and 10th century, also featuring formations of basalt. To reach the Kanheri Caves, you have to cross a series of rock-cut stairs. Kanheri caves are situated on the former island of Salsette in the western outskirts of Mumbai, India. Inside the cave, there is plenty of stone plinth, that used to work as a bed. Apart from this, there are huge halls, supported by big rock pillars, and has Buddhist Shrines in its premises.
