Jaganmohan Mahal ranks among the oldest buildings in the city. Built-in 1961 by the kings of Mysore. When the old wooden palace was destroyed by fire in 1897, the Jaganmohan Mahal was also the residence of the royal families, until the main palace was built.In 1902 Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV took the palace under his command, and ceremony organized on the occasion was attended by the Viceroy and Governor-General of India Lord Carjan. Tourists can also see the wedding pavilion in the palace, which was built during the wedding of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. This pavilion is also known as Durbar Hall, and its fame is because Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV used to celebrate his birthday here.The hall was used for music festivals, drama, and cultural activities as well as convocation of the Mysore University. It is used for cultural programs and celebrations during the Dussehra festival. The palace has two huge wooden doors, with carvings of Lord Vishnu's Dasavatara, paintings, and handicrafts of the kings of Mysore.
