Mysore zoo was built by Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar in 1892 and count as one of the finest zoological gardens in India. Spread over 250 acres, home to many rare species of mammals, reptiles, and birds.
Earlier, the name of the zoo was Palace Ju, and the royal family used to visit here. However, later Chamarajendra Wodeyar allowed common people to enter this zoo. These days the zoo is used for captive breeding programs aimed at increasing the number of endangered species.
You can see elephants, young monkeys, wild bulls, leopards, and tiger cubs. It is well known for the breeding of Barbary Sheep, Zebra, Giraffe, Emu, Chimpanzee, Hippopotamus, Kangaroo, Tiger, Sangai, Pisoori, Four-horned Chikara, Carcair, Bilava Kasturi, Nigiri Langur, Chinkara, Binturong, and Leopard.
