Naina Devi Temple, reputed as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas located all over India, is a sacred site located on the northern bank of Naini Lake in Nainital district of Uttarakhand, India. This temple is one of the most famous places of Hindu worship in the entire country. Devoted to the eyes of Goddess Sati, devotees from all parts of India visit the region throughout the year. The temple was built in 15 A.D., while the idol of Naina Devi was installed in the temple in 1842 by a devotee of a goddess named Moti Ram Shah.Unfortunately, in 1882 the temple collapsed due to a landslide and rebuilt again in 1883 by residents of the locality. The main deity of the Naina Devi temple is Mother Naina Devi or Mother Sati. According to Hindu mythology, the temple is built exactly where the goddess Sati fell on the earth.
