Buddha Jayanti Park is a beautiful well manicured garden with sprawling lawns and blooming flowers. Though relatively new in the list of parks in Delhi, it is quite popular amongst Delhiites and tourists alike.
This garden was built to commemorate the 2500 years of Lord Buddha's attainment of Nirvana. The significance of the garden lies in the fact that sapling of the original Bodhi tree (under which Buddha attained Nirvana) has been brought all the way from Sri Lanka and transplanted here.
Emperor Asoka's daughter Sanghamitra took a sapling from the original Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya and went to Sri Lanka to preach Buddhism. Check out the beautiful idol of Buddha that lies at one corner of the park.
