The Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya which is commonly known to all as the 'Nizamuddin Dargah' or 'Hazrat Nizamuddin Tomb' is situated west of Nizamuddin and approximately 2 km from Humayun Tomb in New Delhi.Dargah is sacred to the world famous Sufi saint of the Chisti Order, Nizamuddin Auliya, who was born in 1238 in Badayun, Uttar Pradesh. He traveled to Delhi to preach the Order of Chisti and then finally settled in Ghiyaspur. Nizamuddin Auliya taught people that love and peace can help them get closer to the God, also one should keep on serving people irrespective of their cast, creed, and religion. During his life, he had many followers like Hazrat Nasiruddin Mahmud Chiragh Dehlavi and Amir Khusro. On 3rd April 1325, he passed away, and his Dargah was constructed by Muhammad Bin Tughlaq of the Tughlaq Dynasty, who was also his avid follower.The Nizamuddin Dargah, as it is popularly known is frequented by a stream of regular visitors. Not just Muslims, but this shrine is visited by Hindus, Christians and people from other faiths as well.The Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya Complex and its surrounding area are considered very sacred and have buried many Muslim Royalties too. It enshrines the Tomb of Jahan Ara Begum, who was the daughter of Mughal Emperor ShahJahan and the famous Persian and Urdu Poet named Mirza Ghalib. The Tomb of Inayat Khan also lies at the corner of this Dargah Complex.
