The National War Memorial was inaugurated on February 25, 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi near India Gate, New Delhi. It has been built as a tribute to the soldiers killed during the Indo-China War in 1962, and the Indo-Pak Wars in 1947, 1965 and 1971, the Kargil Conflict in 1999, and the Indian Peace Keeping Force Operations in Sri Lanka.
The government had approved the project for building a National War Memorial and a National War Museum near India Gate in 2015 in memory of over 22,500 soldiers who laid down their lives post-Independence.
