Situated at Mathura Road, The Pragati Maidan in New Delhi is a huge complex-cum-exhibition centre with a total exhibit area of 150 acres.
It is owned, operated, controlled and managed by India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO). The India Trade Promotion Organisation is under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India.
It was inaugurated in the year 1972. International Trade Fair is held every year in this place. National Book Fair is also held every year.
In addition, a number of events are held in the halls and convention centres. Different state galleries are also here, where they exhibit their specialities like handicrafts and other things.
But now an ambitious new project International Exhibition and Convention Centre (IICC) is taken over in the year 2018 in which six new big convention centres will be developed with a larger sitting capacity covering over 150 acres (0.61 km2) sprinkled with many lawns, overlooking the historic Purana Qila, which stands opposite Gate no 1.
Multilevel underground parking facilities are also being done to facilitate smooth vehicle parking. It has been kept in mind that there should not be any difficulty with vehicular movement, it will not congested.
These fine examples of post-independence architecture have been included on the World Monuments Fund's 2018 list of monuments at risk to highlight their importance and need for protection.
