The Nehru Memorial Museum lies on Teen Murti Marg (Road) in Teen Murti Bhavan which was earlier the residence of the British Commander-in-Chief during the British Raj designed by a famous architect named Robert Tor Russel who also designed the famous Connaught Place, the Western and Eastern Courts situated in Janpath, which aims to preserve and reconstruct the history of the Indian independence movement. Housed within the Teen Murti House complex, it is an autonomous institution under the Indian Ministry of Culture, and was founded in 1964 after the death of India's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
The area where the Nehru Memorial Museum lies is very close to 'Teen Murti' or 'Three Statues' which is a memorial site erected in the memory of Indian Soldiers who were martyred during the First World War.The Nehru Memorial Museum was established in 1964 just after Pt. Nehru's demise by the Indian Government under the Ministry of Culture to pay homage and a tribute to this great leader of India. It showcases a wide collection of numerous rare photographs of Jawaharlal Nehru and his Family.
