About 129 km from Gangtok, Lachen, a small quiet town situated at an altitude of 2750 meters, is located in the district of North Sikkim. It serves as the base for Gurudongmar Lake and the Chopta Valley.
Its name meaning is Bada Pass, recently it has become a popular tourist destination due to the development of Sikkim as a tourist center. Lachen is becoming famous among tourists due to its natural beauty and variety of wildlife animals.
Lachen has a very small population. Including all, it will be around 1000. Here a unique yak race called Thangu is held annually. Tourist places in and around Lachen are- Gurudongmar Lake and Thangu.
The best time to visit Lachen is in between November to June. During this period, the weather remains pleasant. Come and enjoy with family and friends.
