Lachung, a picturesque town located in the North Sikkim district, is situated at an altitude of 9,600 feet from the beach. Lachung means small valley.
It is famous for its monasteries, beauty, waterfalls, ancient rivers, and vast apple orchards. The brilliant architecture of the Monasteries is splendid.
The main places of attraction in Lachung are Yumthang Valley, Yume Samdong or Zero point, Naga Falls, Bhim Nala Falls, and Lachung Monastery. Zero-point is the last up to which civilians are allowed, beyond this point visitors/civilians are not allowed.
After visiting Zero point you will be tired, so during the return journey, you may take a break at Yumthang valley and can taste a cup of tea in the nearby shops.
In the route of Gangtok to Lachung Great Naga Falls appears and it is very beautiful due to greenery, flowers, waterfalls, and a great place for photographers.
You will get an awesome view of the Bhim Nala Falls also.
Tourists come from all over the world to visit this Monastery and its architecture.
October to May is the best time to visit. The number of tourists is less in winter due to snowfall.
The Lachung Monastery and the Rhododendron Sanctuary are the main attractions of Lachung, where many species of rhododendron flowers are found.
There is also a trek to the Rhododendron Sanctuary that starts from Yumthang Valley and ends at Lachung Valley.
Lachung comes alive during the Saga Dawa Festival celebrated in June, which is one of the most important Buddhist festivals.
