Chattris or Cenotaphs are the historical monuments situated on the banks of the River Betwa in Orchha. There is a group of fifteen Chhatris on the banks of the Kanchan Ghat of the Betwa River. These chhatris built as a mark of respect to the powerful rulers of the Bundelkhand dynasty.
These monuments tell a lot about the ancient rulers, their victories, and their stories. Chattris are the tombs of the royal kings, placed on elevated platforms and supported by pillars. This monument is a three-story building, open to all sides, and has beautifully designed domes.
The whole complex is built in Indo- Mughal style and includes the Chattris of Madhukar Shah, Bir Singh Deo, Udait Singh, Jaswant Singh, Pahar Singh, and others. The cenotaph of Bir Singh Deo is the most popular of all because of its unique architecture and marvelous design.
The domes of the Chattris stain in a beautiful style, which gives it an enchanting look. Chattris are one of the famous tourist spots of Orchha, and its magical charm allures people through centuries.
The beauty of Chattris can be seen from a narrow bridge situated on the opposite side of the river, where one can see the reflection of the tombs.
