This temple was once the palace of queen Ganesh Kumari, the wife of king Madhukar Shah who was the ruler of Orchha. The queen wanted the idol of Lord Rama to be installed in her palace as she was a devotee of Lord Rama.
It is believed that to bring the deity, the queen went on a pilgrimage to Ayodhya, which was the birthplace of Lord Rama. It is also said that Lord Rama was pleased with the queen's prayer and agreed to come to Orchha with her, but on one condition, he said that he will not move from one temple to another and always remain in the place where the queen would initially house the idol.
Hence, the palace later turned into a temple of Lord Rama. In this temple, Lord Rama accompanied by Sita, Lakshmana, Maharaj Sugriva, and Narsingha Bhagwan. Goddess Durga is also present in the darbar. Hanuman Ji and Jambavan Ji are praying below the idols of Ram and Sita. These temples hold significant value in the heart of devotees.
