The Sunder Mahal is a stunning symbol of the architectural marvel of ancient times in Orchha. The Sunder Mahal is often referred to as the Palace of Love as it was built in memory of the deep love between the Hindu prince Dhurbhajan and his Muslim lover.
Prince Dhurbhajan was the son of King Jujhar Singh of historical importance. The prince's love for a Muslim girl resulted in his family's disdain and despair. Due to all these problems, the prince left the palace and started living like a saint.
Eventually, he married his girlfriend, and after that, he got this magnificent palace constructed which was named Sunder Mahal. Prince Dhurbhajan is also worshiped by the people of the Muslim community who come here in large numbers to have a glimpse of the holy mausoleum of the prince.
The beautiful palace exemplifies the rich artistic skill and phenomenal creative imagination that give this magnificent palace a unique appearance.
Nowadays, it is almost in ruins.
