16 km away from Port Blair, Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park was created on 24th May 1983 for the protection of marine life like corals, nestling sea turtles and more.
The park spread over an area of 281.5 sq.km and covers 17 Islands. The major Islands are Labyrinth Island and Twin Island. Through the park open sea creeks are running.
The park area is uninhabited but the adjacent 10 villages (mainly Manglutan and Wandoor) is having a population of 7300.
There is enough opportunity to create eco-tourism on the Islands of Red Skin and Jolly Buoy.
Inside the park there is a small auditorium that showcases the flora and fauna of the area through audio-visual media.
