Champaran was formerly known as Champajhar famous for its historical and religious significance. Champaran is regarded as the birthplace of the saint Mahaprabhu Vallabacharya.
This village has two temples dedicated to Shri Mahaprabhu - The Prakatya Baithakji and Mool Prakatya mandir. The village is about 60 km away from Raipur city and around 30 km from Mahasamund district.
Sant Mahaprabhu was the founder and reformer of the Vallabh sect. The temple Prakatya Baithakji has been constructed in his honor.
There is also a temple named Haveli temple. On the eleventh day of Baisakh, followers of sect gather to pay homage to MahaprabhuJi.
It is worth mentioning here that a small stream of Mahanadi river flows very near to the temple which is believed to be originated from the Yamuna river.
