Chail is situated at an altitude of 2,250 m. and is known for its wholesome beauty and virgin forests. The place is surrounded by the forests of Chir pine and gigantic deodars. Maharaja Rajendra of Patiala incurred the rage of Lord Kitchener in1891. It led to the restriction of his entry into the Indian summer capital, Shimla. This provoked Maharaja to declare Chail as his summer capital and built a beautiful fort there (Chail Fort). Chail also houses cricket ground at a height of 2444 m, and which was owned by the royal family of Patiala and it is the world's highest cricket ground.
