Jakhoo Temple is situated at an elevation of 8048 feet above sea level on the Jakhoo hill, the highest peak in Shimla. It offers a beautiful and panoramic view of snowy peaks, valleys and Shimla city. Temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It is believed that the temple dates back to the time of the Ramayana when Lord Hanuman stopped over for a while, on his way to search for Sanjivani Booti for Lord Lakshman. The footprints of Lord Hanuman can be seen in the temple. A huge statue of Lord Hanuman (108 feet high) is also placed in the Jakhoo temple. The statue of Lord Hanuman in the Jakhoo Temple is amongst the tallest Hanuman statues in the world. Though the temple is very old, this statue was built only in the early 21st century. The Jakhoo Temple is well connected by road to Shimla. Cabs are available from Shimla. Recently, the Jahku Ropeway started, which takes you from The Ridge to the Jahku Temple in just 6 minutes.
