Kali Bari Temple, built-in 1845, is located near the mall. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Shyamala, and this name of Shimla is derived from her name.

Many devotees visit here on the occasion of Hindu festivals like Diwali, Navratri, and Durgapuja.
This temple is quite ancient, it was present on Jakhu Hill in the past, but now it was shifted to the place where it was during its tenure by the British. It is currently located just a short distance from the General Post Office from Scandal Point. Instead of the earlier ancient idol quite attractive and some small idol has been installed the idol of Goddess.
In the British rule, when the Aarti was performed here in the evening, the British officers used to complain about being very noisy during that time, but the temple priests used to tell them that they pray here for the victory of the British in the war. Thus, there was continuous worship without any disturbance and the British did not bother.
Even today, this temple is the only witness of that old history in Shimla.
