The famous Sankat Mochan Temple is at an altitude of 1975 meters above sea level, on the Kalka-Shimla highway. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and displays mesmerizing views of Shimla Town and the mighty Himalayan ranges. Baba Neeb Karori Ji Maharaj visited this place in 1950 and was mesmerized by the peace here, in 1966 he laid the foundation stone of this temple, later expanded by the administration. The temple complex has statues of Lord Shiva, Lord Rama, and Lord Ganesha are replaced in separate complexes. The design of the Ganesh temple reflects the South Indian architectural style. The prasad here is also called Langar, which is distributed among devotees every Sunday throughout the year. The temple also facilitates the holding of various rituals including marriages.
