Charaideo is a famous place to visit in Assam. It is around 28 km away from Sivasagar, situated at the foothills of Nagaland. Charaideo built by a person whose name was Sukhapa, and it was the capital of the Ahom dynasty. This place is popularly known as the Pyramids of Assam.
This place also contains many burial grounds of the rulers and queens of the Ahom dynasty, and these are considered to be very holy. At the hilltop of Charaideo, there are about 42 tombs of the kings and the queens.
The architecture of these tombs is very similar to the Egyptian pyramids, and these tombs reflect the excellent work done by the masons of Assam during that time.
The center of attraction of Charaideo is its burial vaults which provide a lot of information about the lifestyle and culture of the rulers of the Ahom dynasty. The octagonal dwarf which encloses the entire tomb is the architectural highlight of the vault. A mesmerizing floral architecture done on the underground vaults, and the chambers are covered with earthen mounds.
There is also a park near Charaideo, named Sukapha park, and there are a lot of amusement options for the children.
Charaideo is a worth visiting place in Sivasagar. It gives an insight into the glory and beauty that the place had in the ancient eras. The best time to visit this place is winter.
