Talatal Ghar is situated in the northern region of Assam, and it is only 4 km away from Sivasagar. It is also known as Rangpur palace. It initially built as an army base. There are two secret tunnels inside the Talatal Ghar, and it was a stronghold of the Ahoms during wars.
Rangpur palace is the underground structure within the Talatal Ghar. The whole construction is the most impressive work of Tai Ahom architecture. Apart from being a beautiful structure Talatal Ghar also shows the rich culture and history of Assam.
It is the largest Ahom monument in the entire world. The upper ground floor of Talatal Ghar is popularly known as Kareng Ghar, and it shows a typical Mughal architecture style. And it was used by the royalty of Assam as a live-in palace. These top floors were added to the Talatal Ghar by Raja Swargdeo Rudra Singha during his regime, and it makes the Talatal Ghar a spectacular seven-story royal palace.
The interesting fact about this beautiful monument is it was built with purely organic materials, including bricks and organic cement, was a mixture of rice powder and duck eggs.
