Guru Rinpoche's massive statue is the world's tallest statue located on the Samdruptse hill opposite Namchi, South Sikkim, it is 118 feet high and completed in February 2004. He was a sage man of India, whose real name was Padmasambhava, the patron saint of Sikkim. Who played an important role in carrying and spreading Vajrayana Buddhism in Bhutan and Tibet in the 8th century AD. He is known as "Guru Rinpoche" or "Lopon Rinpoche". Followers of the Nidama sect consider him as the second Buddha. It is the place where one's wishes can be fulfilled. It is said that there is a dormant volcano in the Samdruptse hill actuation. There is also a belief that the Monks go to the hilltop and pray to keep the Volcanoes quiet. There is also a rock garden on the road to Samdruptse, few distance away from the city. From Samdruptse hill you will get a panoramic view of the snow-clad Kanchenjunga Hill.
