Charar-i-Sharief, 28 km from Srinagar. Hazrat Sheikh Wali Noor-ud-Din Wali, also known as Hazrat Sheikh Wali. The site was built more than 600 years ago in honor of the Muslim Sufi saint Hazrat Sheikh Noor-ud-din Wali. Hazrat Sheikh Noor-ud-din Wali is said to have been born from the womb of a woman named Salar Sanj and was known as Nund Rashi or Shahjanand in the first part of life. It is said that Hazrat Sheikh Noor-ud-din Wali refused to drink his mother's milk three days after his birth. Hazrat was later prepared to breastfeed a Yogini called the Red Dead, who later made Hazrat his successor. He was the first person from Kashmir to introduce Risham in this valley. He preached non-violence, vegetarianism, tolerance, and communal harmony. His followers also called him Alamdar-e-Kashmir, Sheikh-ul-Alam, Sharkhel-e-Rishia, and Sheikh Noor-ud-Din. Hazrat Sheikh Noor-ud-din Wali also made many contributions to the field of poetry. He died in 1438, during which nine lakh followers came to this shrine in 2 days, and his remains were then buried at Charar-i-Sharif. This Shrine has been damaged many times, but despite this, today this place holds its religious importance.
