Hari Parbat is a hill located about 5 km from the city of Srinagar. It is believed to have grown out of pebble once thrown by Goddess Parvati. It was the site of a number of temples in the past but the Islamic invaders destroyed many of them out of religious intolerance. On the southern slop of the hill is located Sharika Devi Temple, dedicated to goddess Durga, having 18 hands. Regarded as a Shaktipeeth, Devi Sharika is also known as Jagadambika Sharika Bhagawati and highly revered by the Kashmiri Pandits. Hari Parbat is also called Pradyumna Peeth.
