Sri Pratap Singh Museum was established in 1898 on the banks of river Jhelum. Initially, this museum was known as Tosh Khana in which shawls and weapons were displayed. Artifacts like Parihaspora, Avantipura, and Pandarenath have also been exhibited for the first time in the museum. The museum also houses precious and ancient terracotta heads, which are unique specimens of the third century from a Buddhist site excavation. Also, the moulded terracotta from the 4th and 5th-century Harwan seen in the museum. The museum has many ancient objects of the Buddhist era, such as meditating statue of an ancient Buddhist deity Lokeshwara and a green stone idol of Lord Vishnu in which he is seated on a bird that resembles Garuda and devotees are greatly attracted by this idol. The museum houses many artifacts belonging to the 5th century Gandhara architectural style which is associated with Lord Buddha. The various artifacts present in the museum are carefully decorated according to the date, time and style. The collection of the museum is divided into several categories such as numismatics, manuscripts, miniatures, weapons, utensils, grass, willow works, Furniture, decorative items, and musical instruments so that tourists can see them comfortably and get more information about them. Apart from all these, the museum also has many other categories such as leather items, sculptures, tiles, and other artifacts. At the same time, the remains of birds and animals found from the excavation of natural parts of Kashmir are also found here.
