Airavateshwar Temple is the main attraction of Darasuram and devotees visit here throughout the year. According to the Puranas, Airavat, the white elephant of Indra, the king of the gods, worshiped Lord Shiva here. Airavat worshiped Lord Shiva to get rid of the curse given by Durvasa Rishi. Lord Yama, considered the god of death among Hindus, worshiped Lord Shiva in this temple. In this temple, Lord Shiva is worshiped as Airavateshwara. This temple is a classic example of the original Dravidian architecture. The temple has beautiful carvings on the stones. This temple is smaller in size than the Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple and the Brihadisvara temples but is more extensive in terms of detail. The sanctum sanctorum of this temple is built as a chariot pulled by horses. If you come to Darasuram, then you must see this temple.
