The Brahadeshwara Temple was Built by the Raja Rajeshwar during 1004 AD and 1009 AD in 5 years and also named after Raja Rajeshwar, who built this temple.
Raja Rajeshwar was a devotee of Lord Shiva, and built many Shiva Temples, including Brahadeshwara Temple. The Brahadeshwara Temple is believed to have been built by the king to bless his empire.
It is around more than 1000 years old structure. One of the major temples in India, the architecture of this temple is truly astonishing. The main attraction of this temple is that it is made of more than 130,000 tons of Granite and is 66 m (217 feet) tall tower which is built above the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
When tourists enter the city, can see this tower from far away.
Another surprising thing in this temple is the Nandi bull statue, which is about two meters in height, six meters in length, and two and a half meters in width and weighs about 20 tons.
Famous classical dances and various Asanas of Bharatanatyam are etched on the outer walls of the upper story.
Many rulers like Pandya, Vijayanagar, and Maratha have added many temples to this place.
The most prominent feature of this temple is that the shadow of the temple never falls on the ground in the afternoon.
