Ledo is a small town located in the Tinsukia district of Assam. It is situated at an altitude of 150 meters above sea level. The leading language here is Assamese.
It is the last station in the East of India on the Big Line. The town is also starting point of Ledo Road, also known as Stilwell Road. A highway, was built here during the Second World War for the use of US and British troops as a military supply route to China through Burma. This highway is about 430 km long and is known as Indo-Burma Highway.
The first coal mine in Assam was commissioned near Ledo in 1882 when the erstwhile Assam Railway and Trading Company, laid a meter gauge railway line in that area.
Some of the nearest villages to Ledo are Tirap Village, Lekhapani, Margherita, and Tipong.
