Yamunotri Temple is located in the west of the Garhwal Himalayas at an altitude of 3235 meters above sea level. An idol of the Hindu goddess Yamuna with the Hindu god Yama is enshrined in the temple. Yama is considered the elder brother of the Hindu goddess Yamuna. This temple was originally built by Maharani Guleria of Jaipur in the 19th century and considered as one of the four Dhams. The gates of the temple open on the holy day of Akshaya Tritiya, which is the third lunar day of the bright half of the Hindu month of Vaishakh and closes on the second day after Diwali. Yamunotri, the origin of the Yamuna River, is also located nearby. The other two main attractions of Yamunotri are the hot water sources, Surya Kund and Gauri Kund.
