The Assi Ghat is a favorite destination for tourists, researchers, Israelis. Assi Ghat is situated at the confluence of the Assi River and the Ganges River. According to a legend, Goddess Durga threw her sword here after killing the demon Sumbha-Nisumbha, this monster was very terrible.It is believed that the area of the Assi River starts from where the sword falls. The description of this ghat is found in many Hindu religious texts and Puranas such as Matsya Purana, Agni Purana, Kashi Kand, and Padma Purana, etc. There is also a Shiva lingam of Lord Shiva under the Peepal tree on this ghat and there is also a temple of Lord Assingameshwara who is believed to be the God of two rivers flowing and confluence.There is also a fairly ancient tank known as Lorca Tank, which is situated at a depth of 15 meters from the ground level.
