Banaras Hindu University

Banaras Hindu University is also known as BHU. The university was founded by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, a patriot, social reformer, educationist, and political activist, who devoted his life to the upliftment of society. The foundation stone of Banaras Hindu University was laid on 4 February 1916 by Lord Hardinge, who was the then Viceroy.More than twenty thousand students study at Banaras Hindu University, and there are more than sixty hostels here. This university is considered to be the largest residential university in Asia. It is called Oxford of the East. The main campus of Banaras Hindu University is spread over 1300 acres. The land was donated by the ruler of Varanasi to form BHU. Another campus of Banaras Hindu University is 60 km from the main campus at a place called Barkachchha in Mirzapur district. The University has four main institutes, including 14 teaching faculty and 140 departments. Students from around 34 countries from all over the world come to Banaras Hindu University.
