Chunar Fort was built by King Maharaja Vikramaditya of Ujjain in honor of his brother King Bharthari, who is believed to have taken Mahasamadhi in this fort. This fort since the construction has been under many great rulers, such as Humayun, and Babur of the Mughal dynasty, Sher Shah Suri of the Sur Empire and many others.
Apart from its history, Chunar is also known for its pottery work. Amazing artwork on clay toys can also be seen here. The graves of some of his soldiers still exist at this place.
