The Manikarnika Ghat is the oldest Ghats in Varanasi, with many mythologies associated with this ghat. According to a legend, Lord Shiva spent a lot of time here, leaving his wife Parvati alone. The goddess told about losing her jewelry on the banks of river Ganges and requested Lord Shiva to find it. The idea was to always keep them in the house under the garb of jewelry. That is why it is said that when a person dies here and his cremation is done here, Lord Shiva asks himself and frees him from the bondage of birth and death. There is a tank here known as Manikarnika, which is believed to have been dug by Lord Shiva when he was searching for the lost jewelry. Manikarnika Ghat is the ghat in Varanasi, where tourists do death tours. Many tourists also come here to see the cremation formalities and customs of Hindus and try to understand the customs. Perhaps women are not allowed to visit this ghat. The temple of Lord Ganesha is situated near this ghat and a stone slab is also built, which is believed to be the mark of Charanpaduka of Lord Vishnu. This is the last cremation of rich and very special people.
