Edakkal Caves is located at a height of 1000 meters on the Ambakuti hill, about 12 km from Sultan Bathory. These beautiful caves were built during the Neolithic Age.
The caves are two-to-two natural formations, which are believed to have been formed by a big rock split. Hence they are called Edakkal which means a stone in the middle.
Beautiful stone carvings make Edakkal caves unique. It is famous for paintings of figures like humans, animals, symbols, and letters. It is about 6000 years old. Human settlements evidence is found here.
These caves have attracted the attention of many historians and archaeologists of the world. There are a total of 3 caves that are evidence of the human lifestyle of ancient times.
To reach these historical caves, you have to take a long trekking journey, and hence this place has also become a favorite place for trekkers.
