It is a quiet place surrounded by lush green valleys, the tourists like it very much. The district was earlier known as Mayakshetra, later changed to Mayanad, and was eventually renamed Wayanad. Presently this place is known as

Wayanad. Situated at an altitude of 2100 meters, this hill station is also known as 'Paddy Land' among the original tribes. It is the only district in Kerala that crosses the boundaries of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The most special feature of Wayanad is the vast forestland, which are said to be around 3,000 years old.
